It’s a dirty job, but the kids are doing it.

Seven-year-old Mateo Maldonado and a group of youthful volunteers picked up 28 bags of trash near Sovereign Bank Stadium during Mateo’s Litter Critters second community cleanup.

Mateo and his sister have spent the spring cleaning up junk around the city. He does it because he doesn’t “want the Earth to look bad,” he told the York Daily Record/Sunday News in April.

His efforts have spread and his group numbered more than 15 at its most recent event —  Chris Maldonado, Styls-Mene Maldonado, Lito Maldonado, Meranda Rodenhaber, Micah Rodenhaber, Mike Rodenhaber, Lynn Rodenhaber, Zadin Zorbough, Nataleah Abate, Jaycob Abate, Michelle Abate,  Joseph Abate, David Dickison, Avery Dickison, Shana Dickison, Jamie Roberts and Ava Raineri.

Mateo’s next clean-up is scheduled for September. Check out the group’s Facebook page for times and dates or email mateoslittercritters@comcast.net for more information.

To help

Mateo’s Litter Critters is looking for donations — trash bags, gloves, brooms, dust pans hand sanitizer, drinks and rolling trash cans. The group will also accept gift cards, cash or check donations to be put toward supplies for future clean-ups.

Supplies can be mailed or dropped off at:

Rodenhaber’s Service Center
305 S. Richland Ave. (rear)
York, pa 17404
